It’s simple. If it’s wrong to wreck the climate, it’s wrong to profit from that wreckage.
Fossil fuel companies are driving climate crisis and have successfully delayed action on climate change for decades. It’s time for our institutions to take a stand and cut their financial ties with fossil fuel companies. A single penny invested is a penny too much.
This is why Divest Camden is calling on Camden Council to:
- Immediately freeze any new investments in fossil fuel companies.
- Divest from direct ownership and any commingled funds that include fossil fuel public equities and corporate bonds over the course of the next Council term.
Camden Council can no longer be allowed to ignore its complicity in climate wreckage. The council was the first in the country to divest from the South African apartheid regime. Unfortunately, this proud heritage is now under threat. While our neighbouring council of Islington has committed to divest, alongside the Mayor of London, New York city, and various other London boroughs, Camden Council has persisted in its dealings with the fossil fuel industry. Engagement with this social pariah risks the financial welfare of the pension fund aside from feeding the climate crisis. If you want to be a part of the most direct method of fighting fossil fuels and stopping climate change in Camden, get in touch with us. Together we can make Camden Council honour its heritage by divesting from fossil fuels and in doing so support a fossil free future.
